HEALTH OFFICIALS DISMISSES OPPOSITION STATEMENTS AS “BOLDFACED LIES’’

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2011 – Grenadian health officials are describing recent statements by Opposition MP for St. Mark, Dr. Claris Modeste-Curwen, pertaining to the Gouyave Health Centre project, as “utter nonsense and boldfaced lies.’’

The former NNP Health Minister, speaking a public meeting of the party on November 20 in St. Patrick, claimed that government had “destroyed the Health facility in Gouyave leaving the residents unable to access certain services in a timely manner. Over one year since it was destroyed; the government has refused to rebuild the facility even when funding was secured by the NNP administration.’’

GOVERNMENT EMPLOYS 85 YOUNG PEOPLE

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2011 – On-the-job training has begun for 85 young Grenadian who are planning careers in the field of health.

The group of youth took up official duties on yesterday under the Health-skills Apprenticeship program of the Government of Grenada. They have been placed in various departments of the health sector, including administration, hospital services, and community and environmental health services.

PRIME MINISTER TOURS GRENVILLE AND SURROUNDING AREAS AFTER HEAVY RAINS

ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 1 DECEMBER 2011_Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas on Wednesday, empathized with the business community and residents of Grenville and surrounding areas, during a visit to areas affected by flooding following heavy rains on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister visited the Grenville Police Station, affected businesses in various parts of the town and discussed the impact of the damage with vendors, who now occupy temporary facilities in the nutmeg station across the street from where work on the new Grenville market is taking place.

MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY AND FISHERIES

St. George’s, Thursday December 1st, 2011: The Marine Protected Area Department of the Fisheries Division – Ministry of Agriculture, is presently conducting a Marine Protected Area (MPA) Enforcement Training workshop for MPA Wardens from St. Vincent and Grenada as part of a follow up activity of the Belize Training of Trainers MPA Management Training course held in September, 2011.

As part of this training workshop, Grenada MPA Wardens will conduct arrests in the Moliniere Beausejour MPA of persons committing infringement within the MPA (staged activity).

CHALLENGE TO PRIVATE SECTOR TO DO MORE TOURISM FINANCING

St. George’s, December 1, 2011 (GIS) – The banking industry and other members of the local private sector are being urged to provide more financial support in the development of tourism in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Private sector backing is needed especially in ensuring the success of community tourism, said Hon. Peter David, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
