GARFIN APPOINTS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

GRENADA AUTHORITY FOR THE REGULATION OF FINANCIAL INSTUTION (GARFIN) APPOINTS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Tuesday, March 20, 2007, St. George’s: The Board of Directors of GARFIN is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Angus Smith to the position of Executive Director of GARFIN. Mr. Smith brings to the position a wide range of experience in the public and private sectors as well as in banking both in Grenada and in the region.  Mr. Smith is a professionally qualified accountant being a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA) and also holds a Masters Degree in Management (MSM).
 
GARFIN is a Subsidiary Body whose main function is the regulation of non-bank financial institutions in Grenada. GARFIN’s office is located on the Carenage in the former GIFSA building.
 
The Board of Directors of GARFIN wish to remind all money service businesses operating in Grenada that in accordance with section 17 of the CARFIN Act No. 5 of 2006, a licence is required from the Authority in order to carry on such business.  Existing businesses are deemed to have a licence for a period of 90 days after the commencement of the Acct.  The GARFIN Act No. 5 of 2006 was proclaimed effective February 1, 2007 by way of SRO No. 2/2007.
