CARNIVAL QUEEN USES HER VICTORY AND VOCATION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

St. George’s-- November 7, 2011: The 2011 Grenada Carnival Queen, Cherrie Jones, has been kept busy since her national victory at Carnival City on Thursday August 4, 2011 at the Netherlands Insurance National Carnival Queen Pageant.  In recent time, the monarch has been using her vocation as a chef to keep active in local charities including involvement with the ladies at the YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association) and at the Desk for Senior Citizens.  On Thursday October 27, the 26-year-old pageant winner volunteered at the Desk of Senior Citizens where she assisted in the kitchen and interacted with the elderly visiting on that day.  The Desk of The Elderly is set up by the Ministry Social Development to achieve and maintain an improved quality of life for older persons in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique by providing efficient quality services in collaboration with other Ministries and stakeholders.

MWAG Mourns The Passing Of Anthony “Jericho” “D Duke” Greenidge

The Media Workers Association of Grenada (MWAG) would like to express deepest condolence to the family and friends of Anthony “Jericho” “D Duke” Greenidge, a member of the fraternity who passed on today, in New York.

The media fraternity has been aware of his illness for a while now and is saddened by his untimely passing.

Jericho’s’ passing will be seen as a big blow to a struggling profession, which is in dire need of persons of his caliber.

TAIWAN'S FOREIGN MINISTRY RESPONDS TO GRENADA DEBT QUESTIONS

The government did not get involved in a recent request from Grenada to defer debt repayment because the matter was handled by the Export-Import Bank of the Republic of China, the state-owned bank charged with implementing state policy in trade, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.

Director-General of the Department of Central and South American Affairs Wu Chin-mu (吳進木) said the ministry was “in no position to intervene in the matter” because the loan in question was “commercial.”

MP PROMISES DEVELOPMENT DRIVE WILL CONTINUE

St. George’s, October 27, 2011 – “I would not be daunted; I would continue to spearhead the drive that I have started to bring greater development to St. Patrick.’’

This was the response given by MP for St. Patrick West, the Hon. Joseph Gilbert, to some concerned workers as he toured one of several ongoing infrastructure improvement projects in his constituency on Thursday, October 27.

The communities visited by MP Gilbert included Marli, where work is continuing to upgrade a section of road.
