USVI SUPPORTS AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY IN NEW YORK

NEW YORK (November 23, 2011) - The United States Virgin Islands continues to strengthen its relationship with the upwardly mobile African American market in the United States with its support of the Weeksville Heritage Center's 10th annual awards dinner in New York City.

Held at Jumeirah Essex House in New York City on Monday, November 14, the Weeksville Heritage Center - a national historic site which preserves the entrepreneurial spirit of the independent African American community that thrived during the 19th Century in Brooklyn, New York - honored two prominent individuals and a global corporation for their community work.

UN WOMEN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MICHELLE BACHELET UNVEILS COMPREHENSIVE POLICY AGENDA TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

United Nations, New York, 22 November 2011 — In her first message for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, since UN Women became operational earlier this year, Executive Director of UN Women Michelle Bachelet outlines a comprehensive policy agenda to end violence against women globally. Violence against women is pandemic but there has been progress. Today 125 countries have specific laws that penalize domestic violence, a remarkable gain from just a decade ago, and equality between women and men is guaranteed in 139 countries and territories. But women continue to be subjected to violence. Estimates indicate, up to six in ten women have suffered physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime, a majority from their husbands or partners.

AMERICAN FRIENDS OF JAMAICA PRESENT HUMANITARIAN AWARD TO DIGICEL CHAIRMAN AND FOUNDER, DENIS O’BRIEN

GEAR UP & COUNTDOWN FOR THE 32ND ANNUAL ST. MAARTEN HEINEKEN REGATTA; EVENTS SCHEDULED MARCH 1 - 4, 2012

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten (Nov. 17, 2011) - Avid sailors and enthusiasts gear up and prepare for some fun in the sun and racing during the 32nd Annual St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.  The traditional three-day event, scheduled March 1 - 4, 2012, kicks off the racing season with two pre-events, the Gill Commodores Cup on March 1st which is a one-day race for spinnaker classes only and the Budget Marine Match Racing Cup a one-day match racing event on Feb 28th which will bring the world's best Match Racers to the island for a day of intense sailing. These events take place prior to the St.Maarten Heineken Regatta which will rev race-goers up for the main event.
